Update on ACA Health Care Premiums

Yesterday, the Senate voted on a bill that would have prevented premiums from skyrocketing for South Carolinians who receive health coverage through the Affordable Care Act. All Democrats voted for the bill. All but four Republicans voted against it.

Meanwhile, the Republican Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, refuses to even have a vote on a similar bill.

In a matter of a few weeks, over 600,000 South Carolinians who are enrolled in an ACA plan and receive subsidies will see their premiums on average double starting next year.

For a family of four earning $66,000 a year, that will mean annual premiums will increase by $3025 for a silver plan.

For a 35-year-old couple owning a small business and earning $80,000 a year, that will mean a $1603 increase next year.

Survey: I want to hear from you: Are you one of 600,000 South Carolinians who will see their ACA premiums increase starting next year?

On day one, Donald Trump said he would “rapidly bring down costs and prices.” Since he took office on January 20, life has become even more unaffordable for hardworking Americans.

I have joined every single House Democrat in demanding an up-or-down vote on a three-year extension of the expiring Affordable Care Act tax credits. If just a handful of Republicans sign this petition, the House will be able to vote on this critically important bill.

It is my honor to represent you and your family in Congress. You can follow me on Facebook and Instagram or subscribe to my newsletter to keep up with my work on your behalf.

I’ll never stop fighting to reverse Republican policies that are raising prices when so many people continue to struggle with everyday costs.

South Carolinians deserve better.

Sincerely,

Jim
