Columbia, S.C. — U.S. Congressman James E. Clyburn (SC-06) released the following statement today to celebrate the second anniversary of President Biden signing the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL).
“Two years ago today, President Biden signed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to repair and rebuild America’s infrastructure. To date, the BIL has provided South Carolina with over $1.9 billion for roads, bridges, and roadway safety. Thanks to this historic funding, projects like the Lowcountry Lowline are transforming the Charleston Peninsula and nearly $23 million is headed to Orangeburg to transform “Railroad Corner,” build a new pedestrian bridge over the railroad tracks and two busy throughfares, and connect Orangeburg’s two HBCUs to downtown.
“Additionally, South Carolina has received $100 million from the BIL to connect more South Carolinians to reliable, high-speed internet and help them save on their internet bills. To date, over 407,000 households in South Carolina are enrolled in the Affordable Connectivity Program, with more signing up every day.
“When President Biden took office, he promised the American people that we would upgrade our infrastructure and prioritize the needs of our disadvantaged communities. The Infrastructure law has made good on that promise.”
