COLUMBIA, SC — Today, U.S. Congressman James E. Clyburn (SC-06) announced that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development is awarding $12.7 million in Community Facilities Direct Loans to Jasper County projects. Part of the funding will be utilized to construct the Beaufort-Jasper YMCA of the Lowcountry, a new YMCA facility in Hardeeville, South Carolina.
This funding builds upon the $1.5 million Community Project Funding (CPF) Congressman Clyburn secured for the Beaufort-Jasper YMCA of the Lowcountry through the Fiscal Year 2023 House Appropriations Package.
“Community Projects are essential to supporting the communities I serve, especially rural communities that have faced historic neglect. When combined with the funding my office secured last Congress, USDA Rural Development’s investment will connect Jasper County with resources to help bring the community together and provide families with access to critical services. I applaud the Biden-Harris Administration for their continued support of this project,” said Congressman Clyburn.
“We’re excited to bring the YMCA to a growing community that has a great need for the critical programs we offer," said project facilitators. "This project is more than building a new facility; it’s about creating spaces that foster connection and support, providing necessary health, well-being, youth development and family services that will allow the people of Jasper County to thrive for decades to come.”
The proposed facility is anticipated to be 34,292 square feet of building space in addition to land for outdoor sports and program elements, parking, and future growth space. The building will include a wide range of program spaces available for the community to use such as an aquatics complex, wellness center, child development rooms, group exercise studio, sports fields, and a child watch adventure zone.
