(Sumter, SC) – Sixth District Congressman James E. Clyburn met with Vietnam Veteran Denny J. Pugh at the Sumter Opera House on Monday, April 12th to present him with eight military medals and thank him for his service to his country.

Mr. Pugh served in the U.S. Army from 1969-1972, and fought in Vietnam.  He was honorably discharged and returned to his native South Carolina, where he has been a lifelong resident of Clarendon and Sumter Counties.

"It is my honor to thank you for your service in Vietnam, and to present you with these medals that have been a long time in coming," Congressman Clyburn said.  "Your contribution to your country should not go unrecognized, and I am privileged to see that you finally receive the honors you so richly deserve."

Congressman Clyburn secured the following medals for Mr. Pugh that had either been lost or never received: Army Achievement Medal; National Defense Service Medal & Bronze Star Attachment; Vietnam Service Medal; Humanitarian Service Medal; Armed Forces Reserve Medal; Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal & Oak Leaf Cluster; Army Service Ribbon; and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon.  Mr. Pugh had been unsuccessful in his own efforts to get the medals to which he was entitled.
