Clyburn Statement on January Jobs Report

WASHINGTON, DC—Assistant Democratic Leader James E. Clyburn today issued the following statement on a report from the Department of Labor which showed that 36,000 jobs were added to the economy in January and the unemployment rate dropped to 9 percent, making this the 11th consecutive month of private sector job growth.

“A significant drop in the unemployment rate is welcome news, but much more needs to be done to create jobs and strengthen the economy. I’ve heard a lot from my Republican colleagues about repealing patients’ rights, rolling back women’s rights, and ending protections for consumers, but I haven’t heard a lot about job creation. It’s time to come together to work on creating jobs and building on the 11 consecutive months of job growth we’ve established.”
