Congressman Clyburn to Host Academy Day in Charleston

March 13, 2002

(Charleston, SC) - Sixth District Congressman James E. Clyburn will sponsor a United States Service Academy Orientation on Saturday, March 23 in Charleston to offer interested high school students, their parents, school guidance counselors, and ROTC Departments an opportunity to learn more about life at the academies.  Our nation's Service Academies offer students unique education challenges and career opportunities free of charge.

This Lowcountry orientation will be held at Trident Technical College in Building 910, Room 228 from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.  The orientation will cover details of the congressional nomination process, the academy application process and requirements, as well as explain each institution's academic program and career opportunities.  Current cadets from West Point and the Air Force Academy will join representatives of the United States Air Force, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine, Military and Naval Academies in making presentations and talking personally with those in attendance.

Congressman Clyburn will host two other Service Academy Orientations.  The first one in Columbia on Saturday, April 13 at the State Museum.  The second in Florence on Saturday, April 27 at Florence Darlington Technical College in the auditorium.  All of the orientations begin at 10:00 a.m.

For further information, please contact Charlene Lowery or Kristin Coleman in Congressman Clyburn's Florence office at (843)662-1212.
